The 2010 National Scout Jamboree, which coincides with the 100 th Anniversary of Scouting in the United States , is scheduled to be held July 26 through August 4, 2010, at Fort A.P. Hill , Virginia . This once-in-a-lifetime event will be a monumental highlight of your Scouting career and your life. To register for the National Jamboree use the link above. You will be able to explore action areas and interactive displays and participate at the merit badge midway and the Army Action Zone, to name just a few. You will meet scouts from across the United States and around the world as you participate in activities and attend stage shows. Tied in with the celebration of 100 years of scouting, the fireworks display after the main arena show promises to be spectacular. Now is the time for Scouts to make plans to attend. There will only be 72 slots open for our council. The Jamboree is open to all who are qualified on a first come first serve basis. After our troops have been filled, a standby list of alternates will be established. If you are interested in going to the 2010 National Jamboree, you must meet these qualifications: Minimum rank requirement for Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts: First Class Scout. Applicant must have completed the sixth grade or be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2010, but not have reached his 18th birthday by August 3, 2010. Applicant must have been active in a troop or team for at least six months prior to July 1, 2010, and be approved by the unit leader and Bucktail Council as a scout who lives and abides by the Scout Oath and Law and is willing to abide by the Jamboree code of conduct. Council estimates that the fee for participating Scouts will be $1,500. The Council fee includes the $795 per person Jamboree fee plus transportation, meals, insurance and most patrol and troop equipment. The fee also covers the mandatory council contingent training encampment in late May 2010. You may anticipate additional expenses for uniforms, personal gear, spending money, and memorabilia items. Please refer to the fee schedule. You may make payments ahead of time and pay as much as you like---even in full.
